Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he is hoping to bring more new faces to Old Trafford this summer. United have already announced the headline £73million signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and are set to unveil blockbuster defender Raphael Varane in the coming days. Tom Heaton has also returned to the club on a free transfer.
Solskjaer has been desperate to bring reinforcements to Old Trafford this summer as his side look to launch an assault on the Premier League title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Sancho will add firepower to an already potent United attack, which scored more Premier League goals than every club apart from Manchester City last term.
Varane is viewed as the missing link in the Red Devils backline and will provide Harry Maguire with a long-term partner at the heart of the United defence.
Man Utd drew 2-2 to Brentford in a pre-season friendly at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Addressing the United fans in his programme notes ahead of the game, Solskjaer said: "I'm hopeful that there might be a little more business done by us before the summer window closes, while I'm also mindful that a lot of our squad members underwent great development on loan last term, so there's no question that we go into this season in better shape than last season.
"I'm absolutely thrilled that we have managed to conclude a deal for Jadon Sancho, who we regard as one of the most exciting young attackers in the game, while it's also great to have Tom Heaton back home in our goalkeeping department once more."
Several youngsters were involved for United on Wednesday night and Solskjaer confirmed he would be sending some of them out on loan in the coming weeks to gain more first-team experience.
"There are loan deals already arranged for some of the boys and I would expect more to be agreed in the coming days and weeks," he wrote.
"And those are important because we have some really talented lads who need to get out there and play competitive senior football."
United had a much-improved season last time out as they secured second place in the Premier League before going down on penalties to Villarreal in the Europa League final.
Solskjaer has yet to win a trophy as United boss but is building a stellar squad and will be hoping to taste success during this campaign.
United open their Premier League season on Saturday 14 August as they host Leeds United.
