Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette absences due to positive Covid tests

 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette did not feature in Arsenal's Premier League defeat to Brentford with rumours suggesting the pair could be on the way out the club

Arsenal duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette missed the loss to Brentford having both tested positive for Covid, the Gunners have confirmed.

The pair missed the opening day loss with speculation soon following that they could be on the way out of the Emirates.

But Arsenal have moved to dispel those fears, by revealing that both forwards had tested positive for Covid.

An update on the club's injured players read on Aubameyang: "Auba tested positive for Covid-19 and was unavailable for last Friday’s match at Brentford.

"Auba is now negative on Covid-19 testing, is well and following all protocols for return to play. He will return to training and be assessed prior to Sunday’s match."

While it added on Lacazette: "Alex tested positive for Covid-19 and was unavailable for last Friday’s match at Brentford. Alex is still recovering and will not be available for Sunday’s match."

Fellow Arsenal stars Alex Runarsson and Willian also tested positive, the club have confirmed.

On Runarsson, they added: "Alex tested positive for Covid-19 and was unavailable for last Friday’s match at Brentford. Alex is still recovering and will not be available for Sunday’s match."

While on Willian, it was confirmed: "Willian has also tested positive for Covid-19 and is adhering to protocols. His health and fitness will be monitored and assessed ahead of Sunday’s match."

And the statement ended: "As part of Premier League protocol, all members of our first team squad and support staff continue to be regularly tested for COVID-19."
