Arsenal could turn towards Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz after missing out on Bruno Guimaraes.
Lyon midfielder Guimaraes is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle United this week.
The Magpies have reportedly agreed a £33m to sign the Brazilian playmaker.
Gunners chief Edu held a long-term interest in Guimaraes but he must now move on.
According to the Express, Edu is spying move for another Brazilian in Douglas Luiz.
Luiz remains under contract at Villa until 2023.
And manager Steven Gerrard recently shut down talks of the 23-year-old leaving Villa Park.
However, with Arsenal desperate for midfield reinforcements, a substantial offer for Luiz could be tough to turn down.
