Equatorial Guinea have been one of the surprise packages in the 2021 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations,
reaching the quarter-final stage. Now, goalkeeper Jesus Owono has been promised a Michael Jackson glove
if he helps his team win the tournament.
Defeating Mali in the round of 16 booked Equatorial Guinea's spot in the quarter-final, with Owono saving
two key penalties in the shootout victory.
Senegal, one of the pre-tournament favourites, now await them in the quarter-final, yet this hasn't prevented
those back in Equatorial Guinea from dreaming of what would be a historic and unprecedented triumph.
"The results of the national team have us all euphoric," explained the nation's vice-president Teddy Nguema on Twitter.
"I want to focus on our young goalkeeper, Jesus Owono.
"If we win AFCON, I will give him one of Michael Jackson's gloves for his impressive work during the tournament."
The Alaves shot-stopper has played the perfect tournament to this point, not yet conceding a goal in the three matches
he has played.
He has a save percentage of 100 percent, having saved all six of the shots he has faced throughout his time in Cameroon,
although in itself this is testament to a strong Equatorial Guinea defence as a whole.
