De Gea wins Premier League Player of the Month for first time in his career

Has been solid in goal for Manchester United this season

David de Gea has been named Premier League Player of the Month for the first time since landing in England back in 2011, after receiving the award for the month of January.

The Spanish goalkeeper made as many as 22 saves this last month, sitting top of the list of the Premier League shot-stoppers with the most saves made this season with a total of 84.

He is followed by Leeds United keeper Illan Meslier, who has pulled off 13 fewer saves than his Manchester United counterpart in 2021/22.

De Gea won the prize for this first time despite having registered 361 Premier League appearances. He managed to receive more votes than candidates such as Jarrod Bowen, Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Harrison, Joao Moutinho and James Ward-Prowse.

The Spain international also became the first goalkeeper to claim the award since February 2016, when Southampton's Fraser Forster was named Premier League Player of the Month.
